“Having the Neuro-Fit Program here in Lexington has been enormously beneficial to me—as it no doubt has been for others in the program.”

Doug McDonald is a Lexington resident who joined Neuro-Fit in the summer of 2022. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease eleven years ago and had previously tried different forms of exercise, including working with a trainer at his local gym and attending group exercise classes. His exercise routine was failing to address symptoms related to Parkinson’s, specifically gait, balance, and coordination.

When he started exercising at Neuro-Fit, his routine was tailored to his unique needs and combined different areas of focus that he was not previously working towards in other fitness settings. Doug’s exercises at Neuro-Fit help him maintain strength and flexibility as well as challenging his balance and getting out of his comfort zone. Doug appreciates that Neuro-Fit helps him stay consistent and gain valuable feedback on his progress. He explains, “The Neuro-Fit community of interns, participants and supervisors is very supportive, which has made the experience a positive and motivating one for me. Participating in the program has stabilized my condition, with improved strength and balance, and has consequently improved the quality of my life.”

Doug’s journey at Neuro-Fit shows the key to any successful exercise routine is that it is ongoing, well rounded, and most of all, enjoyable!
